Meet Lex Scott Davis! You might know from the lifetime movie “Unbreak my heart” where she stars as the legendary singer Toni Braxton. She comes to us with two films “SuperFly” opening June 13th, and “The First Purge” opening July 4th. She is the female lead in both and we can’t wait to get some popcorn and watch both movies! Lex is currently unstoppable!
She has a passion for mentoring young women and on issues of social justice as well as a great love of the arts! She is super cool, fab and we were so excited we got a chance to sit down and have a chat with her!
What gets you up in the morning?
Sunlight and Music!
What was it like to film SuperFly & The First Purge?
Both of these films were so different for me! The First Purge was shot 1st and was filmed in Buffalo, NY—a very cold town with not much to do, outside of being on set. While Superfly was filmed in Atlanta, GA where the nightlife is insane! The First Purge felt more raw and dirty whereas Superfly was more glamorous in every facet. Both of my characters were on completely different sides of the spectrum which was exciting for me because I love showing versatility and being relatable to all types of women.
Was filming a horror movie a new experience for you? What was it like?
Although horror is my favorite genre, it was my first time doing a horror film and it was truly a challenge for me! Nothing about being on set was actually “scary” which made it difficult to truly be afraid of what’s going to “jump out” at you. For safety, all the jump-scares and action sequences had to be rehearsed, so with each take it became more difficult to act as if we didn’t know what was coming while following the choreography in order to keep the element of surprise for the audience. Filming The First Purge was truly a learning experience!
How are you similar to your character on SuperFly & The First Purge? How are you different?
While both characters are so different, I felt I had something in common with each of them. I relate to the dominance and poise that Georgia in Superfly possesses, and I am passionate about protecting mankind like Nya in The First Purge.
Is there any fun fact about making the movies that you can tell us?
Here’s a fun fact about the love scene in Superfly… THE WATER WAS COLD! We couldn’t use the first couple of takes in the shower because the steam from the hot water was fogging up the glass so much that the camera couldn’t see through it. So in order for them to get the shot, we had to keep the water cold and use artificial fog machines to give the illusion that it was “hot & steamy” when really we were all shivering. If you pay close attention you might see goosebumps!
Your biggest virtue?
Kindness—my innate desire to see everyone happy.
Your biggest vice?
HGTV — I probably watch more on how to renovate homes than I do scripted television.
Do you have a party trick?
Disappearing without saying goodbye. Haha!
How would you describe your style?
My overall approach with style is very “tomboy chic” while incorporating 70s inspo…big hair, high waist loose pants, etc. I rarely ever want to wear just a dress; for example, I love layers, playing with bold colors, and overall just being super creative with my appearance. Off the top of my head I like to think of Erykah Badu, Solange, Janelle Monae, & Zoe Kravitz for style inspiration.
What would constitute a perfect day for you?
My idea of a perfect day is waking up without an alarm and it’s 75-80 degrees outside. I’d go to brunch and have mimosas with my friends, and then come home and play house music on my DJ mixer…or just watch more HGTV.
Three people—dead or alive, real or fictional—that you’d like to invite to dinner?
Michael Jackson, Spongebob Squarepants, and Jesus. Yup, that sounds about right.
Confidence, Style, MUST be a Great Dancer, and Sense of Humor.
Insecurity, Body Odor, Zero Personality, and Lack of Common Sense.
Tell us a secret?
In the 10th grade I learned how to do tattoos. But I’ve only done 4 in my life and I’m sure they all look terrible.
Your favorite quote?
“What would a man be, What would any man be, Without his Clothes?”
Your proudest moment?
Spending my most recent birthday on set while having my family visiting that day! That’s been an ongoing birthday wish of mine and this year it came true!
What does popular mean to you?
Popular means to be loved and liked by all. And not in an arrogant or self serving sense, but because that person genuinely exhibits compassion for others while owning their own uniqueness, and putting positive energy out into the world.
Could you tell us more about some of the projects you are working on?
At this time I am just excited for everyone to see Superfly in theaters June 13th and The First Purge in theaters on July 4th!
