We caught up with one of our favorite Swedish pop-duos, Smith and Thell, to find out what’s been going on since we last chatted and to talk about their recently released new album “Soulprints”.
“Soulprints” is Smith and Thell’s (Maria Jane Smith and Victor Thell) third album and is packed with energetic and heartfelt jams; loaded with saccharin sweet folk vocals, impressive instrumentals, and sparkling sound effects that deliver throughout the 12 track LP.
Check our chat and listen to “Soulprints” here.
1. What inspired you to want to write music and sing? Both of us were easily effected by music from a young age. While our friends listened to a song they liked, we listened to a song and would get obsessed. We weren’t satisfied with just listening, we wanted to write and make noise for ourselves. It’s the art-form that vibrates with our being. All the songs we write are stories from our life, thoughts about the world and a tool trying to understand ourselves and why we feel how we feel. Our album Soulprints has been a journey back in our lives, as many songs are written from a child’s eyes looking in the rearview mirror.
2. If you could work with any artist – who would it be? Bon Iver would be a dream. He’s a special one. We really admire the way he produces.
3. What helps you with your writing process? Feeling pain, haha.. Not too much and not too little. Suffering just the right amount.. Honestly.
4. Are there any upcoming projects you can share with us? We have a few releases with songs we’ve written for other artists coming up soon, can’t say more until they’re released :)
