You might not know Brooklyn-based trio Violet Sands yet, but that’s about to change. Comprised of Savior Adore vocalist Deidre Muro, Love Like Deloreans’ Derek Muro and French Horn Rebellion’s David Perlick-Molinari, the musical supergroup makes shimmering electropop gems that sound like they’re out of your favorite 80s movies. Their track “Modern Ruins” is the perfect song to sway to and/or roll around on the beach to this summer, and it was inspired by some of your favorite sci-fi characters.

Of the track “Modern Ruins,” lead singer Deidre says, “[It] was inspired by the initial Scully/Mulder partnership in The X Files—we imagined Mulder heading out to explore some perilous remains of a desert city in search of ‘answers.’ We wanted to create a sweeping, classic-feeling melody to score this idea, like something you might in a Tom Petty or Chrissy Hynde track.”

The band will release its five-track EP on May 6.
